Farsi-jān › FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is Farsi-jān free?

Yes. The app is free to use, with no account required, and your progress stays on your own device.

Is Farsi the same as Persian?

Yes — "Farsi" is simply the Persian word for the Persian language; in English they mean the same thing. Farsi-jān focuses on everyday, spoken Tehrani Persian.

Can I use it if I understand Farsi but can't speak it?

That's exactly who it's built for. Farsi-jān is designed for heritage speakers who understand more than they can say. A placement test skips what you already know, and the lessons turn your passive understanding into actual speech.

Do I need to learn the Persian alphabet?

No. Reading is optional and never blocks you. You can learn to speak using finglish (Persian in the Latin alphabet) and pick up the script whenever — or never.

Does it teach spoken Tehrani or formal Farsi?

Mostly the spoken, colloquial Tehrani people really use — while also showing the formal written forms and when each is appropriate.

Do I need an account or to pay?

Neither. It's private and local-first: your data stays in your browser, no ads, nothing sold.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes — it runs in any modern browser and installs as an app (PWA) on iPhone and Android.

Does it have audio?

Not yet. Pronunciation is taught with detailed written guides; recorded audio is on the roadmap.
