Farsi-jān is a local-first, data-minimizing language app. Today your learning data lives only in your own browser and is never sent to us or anyone else. No accounts, no profiling, no ads, nothing sold — only privacy-respecting, cookieless usage analytics that count anonymous, aggregate visits and can’t identify you (details below). We only ever plan to handle the minimum data needed to optionally sync your progress and assess your speaking — both described under “Planned,” and neither active in this version.
Your data is stored in your browser’s localStorage, on your
device only — learning progress, personalization (goals, reading level,
practice settings), notes and captured/saved phrases, and local usage counts
that never leave your device.
We do not use accounts, names, emails, ads, profiling cookies, cross-site tracking, location, contacts, fingerprinting, or the microphone; and we sell/share nothing. Fonts are self-hosted, so no IP goes to a font CDN.
Anonymous analytics. To understand whether the app is useful — roughly how many people open it and whether they come back — we use Vercel Web Analytics, the privacy-friendly analytics built into our hosting. It is cookieless, sets nothing on your device, does not store your IP address or other personal identifiers, does not track you across sites, and produces only aggregate counts that cannot identify you. Measurement is served first-party from our own domain, so your browser makes no third-party request. No personal data is collected or sold.
Your controls: in Settings, Download progress exports everything, and Reset all progress erases everything.
Today the app collects no personal data from anyone, so it does not by itself trigger affirmative children’s-privacy duties. Before the planned account, microphone, or payment features ship, we will add an age check and, for users under the local age of consent (13 in the US under COPPA; up to 16 in the EU/UK under GDPR-Kids), either obtain verifiable parental consent or not offer those features to them.
Because your data is local, you exercise access, portability, and erasure directly via Export and Reset. For any data we later hold server-side (account email, sync, support), contact us to access, correct, or delete it. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising (GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, LGPD, PIPEDA and others).
No server-side store of your learning data exists today, so there is no central database to breach. The app is served over HTTPS and ships no secrets.
We will post changes here with an updated date and give in-app notice for material changes — including before any planned feature turns on.
